New Automotive Services Program Prepares Students for In-Demand Careers

June 10, 2026

The Pursuit Institute is excited to offer its Automotive Services program in partnership with Tom Wood Automotive and Vincennes University, providing students a direct pathway into high-demand careers in the automotive industry.

During the first year, students build a strong foundation through courses in Principles of Automotive Services, Brake Systems, and Steering and Suspension. In year two, students apply their skills in an Automotive Service Capstone, gaining deeper, hands-on experience in the field.

Students in the program also have the opportunity to earn dual credit through Vincennes University, giving them a head start on their college education while still in high school. In addition, participants can earn valuable industry certifications through programs such as Hunter Engineering, RockED, and ASE training.

A highlight of the program is the paid capstone internship in year two. Students are placed within Tom Wood Group dealerships, where they work alongside professional technicians, earn a paycheck, and receive tools and uniforms. This real-world experience helps students build confidence and prepares them for potential full-time employment after graduation.

For Tom Wood, this partnership is part of a broader, proactive approach to addressing the technician shortage – one that combines early talent pipeline development, structured mentorship, and a workplace culture designed to attract and retain the next generation of automotive professionals.

Through this innovative partnership, The Pursuit Institute continues to provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that lead directly to career opportunities.
